Banglamung police made a rapid arrest in the early hours of May 16 after a Belgian female tourist was robbed of her bag containing approximately 1,000 Euros (around 40,000 baht) in Na Kluea. The suspect, 33-year-old Natthaphong Phongsi, was tracked down through CCTV footage after he exchanged the stolen currency at a North Pattaya money booth and then went to eat at a local restaurant. He confessed to the crime, claiming he had no money to pay a 3,000-baht bar bill after his friends fled without paying. Police seized the cash, the getaway motorcycle, and the clothing worn during the robbery. The suspect faces charges and has been forwarded to Banglamung Police Station investigators.
